Growth Pod Project

Growth is a living pod for people experiencing homelessness in Atlanta. The design approaches homelessness by creating a functional space that provides a secure, comfortable, and meaningful place for people to live. The design considers design principles, empowerment and personal control, security and personal space, beauty and functionality, and stress management.

The design creates a functional home by challenging the use of form and space. By exploring line, shape, and plane and isolating these elements, the parti was generated. From this, multiple models developed while still exploring shapes and forms. Inspiration from travel pictures and personal experiences were used to create the final model. The concept words that inspired the final design were transformation, rebirth, growth, and functionality. It was crucial that the design incorporated functionality, comfort and provide spaces to destress or reflect. Growth gives people who experience homelessness an opportunity to start a new life.
