Lacoste (Sound) Pop Up Experience
The aim of the Studio IV project was to create the experience of Lacoste, South of France, through the five human senses by conceptualizing a pop up event. Each group created a pod that incorporated Lacoste through each sense: taste, sound, touch, smell, and sight. The site for the project is located in Lacoste, France, then from there, the exhibition will travel to the United States to Savannah and Atlanta Georgia.
Overall Project Concept: In the life of a dandelion, the first stage is a seed, then begins to bloom to a yellow flower. From this it closes up and dies which transforms into pappi that blows away. When they drift off from the stem they land and sprout new flowers wherever they land. Then the process starts over. With this pop up, the culture of Lacoste is being planted into new locations and new individuals who take what they’ve explored to new places. They will experience Lacoste through the five senses separately from one other in the way a dandelion goes through the phases of its life.
Sound Pod Concept: Through collaboration, the class designed pods for users to depend on each sense individually and together. My group "Sonner" or Sound came up with 'Seed Dispersal' as our concept for Sound. The stage of seed dispersal stood out the most as its purpose is to spread across long distances and allow its seeds to grow. In order to bring Lacoste to life in other places, the exhibit acts as the seed and can land in different locations and essentially grow and leave its mark. The sense of sound will take the different modes of seed dispersal such as gravity, water, wind, or animal movement, and allow the user to choose those modes to create a unique sound of Lacoste.
